There are too many people out there who’ll give blind inspiration without rational thought; spouting things like “dream big” and cliches like “shoot for the moon and if you miss you’ll be amongst the stars.”

My issues with blind inspiration is that often the artists are only getting part of idea. An inspirational tidbit may get them motivated for a short period of time but then their attention span wains or they get discouraged with not being immediately successful.

For example, Michael Jordan’s quote “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is a perfect example of quick inspiration. It does nothing to mention the years of practice and training one needs to get to the point where making those shots count. It doesn’t explain that you should NOT take every shot just because you can. And doesn’t even mention teamwork and sharing the workload or common goal. Yet…
